Overview/Program Goals

Head Start is a national program that promotes school readiness by enhancing the social and cognitive development of low income children through the provision of education, health, nutrition, social and other services for children and their families.

Program Governance
GOAL:  To have general staff meetings more frequently so that all staff feel better informed about pending issues and have an opportunity to ask questions and express their opinions.

Management System
GOAL:  To implement a mentoring system and more thorough component training for new employees.

Fiscal Integrity
GOAL:  To increase the amount of funds in Head Start, Inc.’s Endowments.

Eligibility, Recruitment, Selection, Enrollment, and Attendance
GOAL:  To relieve pressure on ERSEA staff and to make the application process more efficient by increasing the amount of staff support during the busiest periods of application interviews and data entry.

Child Health and Safety
GOAL:  To reach 100% compliance with documentation of physical and dental examinations and treatment follow-up for children at all sites.

Family and Community Engagement
GOAL:  To generate more publicity for rural sites and create more rural partnerships, support and public awareness.

Child Development and Education
GOAL:  To provide training and support for early math and science instruction in order to improve student outcomes in these areas.

Staff Development
GOAL:  To promote cross-component training and information exchanges so that internal systems can collaborate more easily (e.g., transportation with education, fiscal with management, nutrition with transportation, education with family services).
